Staffordshire Trading Standards have been made aware of a Council Tax telephone scam targeting the Stafford area.

Residents have reported to Stafford Borough Council that they are receiving calls from someone claiming to work at the council. The caller tells residents that they are owed a Council Tax or Business Rate refund and in order to claim the refund they must call a number. This is a scam as Stafford Borough Council does NOT contact residents to offer such refunds.

We strongly advise you to never give your financial details out over the phone and to not call any number provided by unsolicited callers. There is a chance you could be calling a high rate number.
